Experience Melbourne

In Melbourne, you’ll meet fired-up sports fans, coffee lovers, and folks genuinely glad to welcome you to this safe, sunny destination. Outstanding and convenient public transportation, renowned culture, and memorable cafes (many outdoor) will have you wishing you were staying longer in Melbourne. And there’s more to explore on TapRooT®’s Melbourne Pinterest board.

Visit Federation Square. Yes, as the hub for festivals, such as food, wine, fashion, it’s bustling with activity. It’s also the place to see St. Paul’s Cathedral and take in serene views of the Yarra River.

While you’re downtown, stroll or jog the Tan loop through Royal Botanic Gardens. With lakes and manicured lawns, the gardens transport you to a outdoor greenhouse in full bloom. There’s even a section dedicated to cacti.

Next, see the Shrine of Remembrance, the national memorial dedicated to those who’ve served in war and peacekeeping missions. Photo op: Tour the building, then walk to the top for a forever view.

Get in line for penguins on parade at the Melbourne Sea-life Aquarium, located on the banks of the Yarra River.

Tower tall above the sights and sounds of the city. Catch incredible views from the highest viewing point (atop Melbourne’s tallest building) in the Southern Hemisphere at the Eureka Skydeck.

It’s a must-do when in Melbourne to visit the historic landmark of Cooks’ Cottage. Located in Fitzroy Gardens, the cottage is the oldest building in Australia (built 1755). Navigator and explorer Captain James Cook’s father built the structure in Yorkshire, England, but it was brought to Australia—brick by brick, each one numbered—then reassembled in Fitzroy Gardens. Tickets and souvenirs can be purchased from the Fitzroy Gardens Visitor Centre, just 100 meters away.

Taste Melbourne

Get thee to an international food stall at the Queen Victoria Market, covering two city blocks. The dilemma is deciding what to sample!

Take tea among the glorious architecture of Block Arcade, the Collins Street heritage-rich shopping venue. Specifically, try the Hopetoun Tea Rooms if you can make it past the decadence in the windows.
