Job Summary:

Purpose:

As a member of the Radiation Safety department within Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), the health physicist will be responsible for the development, management and implementation of a site radiation protection program that supports a R&D organization. This position will provide health physics support for a radiochemistry group.

Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to radiation control and radiation protection. Conduct programs for periodic inspections of Amgen operations. Provide recommendations on audit protocols and technical expertise for internal audit program.


Basic Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in managing, developing and supporting radiation protection programs of similar to a campus university, with a minimum of 3 years experience in a lead or supervisory role.
BS degree in Health Physics/Radiological Health, Medical Physics, or closely related scientific field.
Demonstrated ability to design, develop, manage and implement elements of a Radiation Protection Program.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Research & Development community.
A strong health physics background including bioassay, air monitoring, swipe surveys, instrumentation and incident response.
Knowledge and experience in research and laboratory-based operations with comprehensive understanding of complex health, safety, and environmental issues.
Knowledge of California State and Federal laws, codes, regulations, guidelines and current technology pertaining to radiation safety, radioactive waste and radioactive material transportation.
