Tech Support Thursday - SQL Problems and Resolutions
Hello again, folks. It looks like another week has passed, and we all know what that means. Tech Support Thursday has arrived, and only one more day until Friday. Unfortunately, tomorrow is Friday the 13th, so if you have Paraskevidekatriaphobia (Fear of Friday the 13th), just take tomorrow off.
Inside I’ll go over some basics on the MSDE SQL engine that runs the single version of TapRooT System Software.
Today we are addressing an issue many people have, and we get quite a few calls for help on also. Does the picture look familiar?
If so, read on and we’ll show you why this happens and how to fix it!
Reason: This can occur when your MSDE-powered SQL Server on your PC is not running. No worries though, a few simple steps will get you back up and running in no time at all!
First, if you get this error, look at the bottom right hand side of your screen. You should see a small computer with a green arrow on top of it:
This shows that MS SQL is running fine.
Or, perhaps you see the computer with a red dot on it: This shows that MS SQL is not running. Don’t panic though, its easy to turn it back on!
Double Click on the icon, and the SQL Server Service Manager will open:
Now, click on start/Continue. The SQL Server starts after a few seconds. If not, click the “Refresh Services….” button. That also starts the Service.
However, when you look down to the clock in the bottom right hand corner, you may not see the computer at all. Oh my!!
Not a problem!! Simply navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn, double click on the “sqlmangr.exe”, and press Start/Continue. Again, if it doesn’t start at first, click on “Refresh Services…”
And there you have it. You have just started your SQL server running again (if it wasn’t running in the first place). That concludes this weeks edition of Tech Support Thursday. Have a good weekend, a Happy Friday the 13th, and we’ll see you next week!
