"The Install" - Hiro installs TapRooTŪ Software Version 5.1

Let's meet Adam.  Adam is a new employee to Takezo Corporation and has been tasked with installing the new TapRooT® System Software that the company has recently purchased.  Having somewhat of a technical background, Adam isn't that concerned about installing the software because he understands it's pretty straightforward.  However, just to be sure he doesn't miss anything, Adam decides to seek the help of Hiro, the network "guru" that's been with the company for several years.  After discussing this new project on the phone, Adam goes to Hiro's office and Hiro begins to explain how to install the TapRooT® System Software v5.1.

First thing we need to do is to make sure that we know what servers we are going to install the web application and database application onto.  Hiro decides that to make matters easier he will setup the Web Server and the Database on the same machine TKSVR1.  Before beginning the installation, Hiro has verified that all of the system requirements (such as .Net Framework) are fully installed and prepared according to specification in the TapRooT® System Software Administrator's Guide that is included on the installation CDROM.

Now that we have done that, Hiro inserts the installation CDROM and navigates to the root folder.  Although it doesn't matter which you install first, Hiro decides that he wants to install the database first so he double-clicks on the [TapRooT Database Installer] folder and then double-clicks on TapRooTDatabaseInstaller.exe to start the install process.

The first screen that comes up is the Database Installation screen:

Hiro tells Adam that since we are installing this database into the default location and not into a specific instance we can leave the location as (local).

The "SQL Server Login:" and "SQL Server Password:" are going to be the Login and password used when the SQL Server was initially installed (commonly "sa" as the Login and "password" as the password)  Once that information is entered Hiro presses the [RESTORE] button to restore a blank database.

Hiro then tells Adam that the database install is now complete.  Adam is puzzled and asks what do I need to do if I want to install the database onto a different machine?  Hiro explains that the database installer must be performed locally, either by inserting the CD into the server, or copying the installation files to the server.

With the database successfully installed, Hiro decides to move on and run the web installer.  Navigating back to the root folder on the CD, Hiro open the [TapRooT Web Installer] folder and double-clicks on TapRooTSetup.exe to start the web install process.

"Next," Hiro says, "the installer asks which IIS website to install into and the Virtual Directory to create inside it. Since we want to install on the Default Web Site using the TapRooT virtual directory, we'll leave these default settings intact."

Once completed, you will be presented with the following screen:

Hiro joyfully tells Adam, "We have completed the install, let's go celebrate!"
