How Do I Install TapRooT® System Software 4.0.6?
This article will describe how to install the TapRooT System Software 4.0.6.
First thing you want to do is insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
Once it's in there, if this screen doesn't open up automatically, double-click on the "My Computer"
icon and then double-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive. This will open a window similar to this:
Click on the "Install or Update..." button to begin the install process. On the next screen press the "Install the
TapRooT® System Software" button to install the software on your machine. You will need to agree to the
license agreement and press [NEXT] to continue through the install process. Once it completes you will have
an icon on your desktop such as 
. Double-click on that icon to start the next step of the installation process which is to enter your company serial number or select demo install.
The installation type is based on the serial number entered. For simplicity, this article will presume you are going to be installing for a single user. If you need to install in a workgroup or enterprise
environment, please refer to the TapRooT® System Software
Administrator's Guide included on the CD-ROM.
After entering the serial number or selecting "demo install," you will go to the MSDE install screen.
MSDE is the MicroSoft Database Engine, used to store TapRooT data. Here you will be prompted
to enter an administrator password for the database. We recommend "taproot" (no quotes). Note
that this password will not be required in the future for any upgrades or backups, and will be culled
automatically in the case of upgrades and/or backups. While you may wish to store it, it is not
necessary to do so.
Once the MSDE installation finishes, the setup program will simply close. You will need to open the TapRooT
System Software again to finish the installation. The software will then initialize a blank database and test the
connection before opening to the "Incident Manager" screen.
If the install is successful, you will see the following screen:
Thats it! You have successfully installed the TapRooT® System Software.
