Tech Support Thursday: Backup SnapCharTs
So you’re working on a huge SnapCharT and something terrible happens—the power goes out in the building. Unfortunately your battery was dead on your laptop, you weren’t aware, and in an instant you lost days worth of work.
You didn’t have any backups of the file. You call TapRooT tech support, desperate, worried and wanting to know if there’s anything that can be done (there is). But you are also told you need to implement backup procedures on your charts.
“How do I do that?”
That’s what we learn today. Click on to see how!
Step 1: Create A Backup Of Your Existing Chart(s)
It’s as simple as this: Highlight the chart you wish to backup and click on the Copy button:
Step 2: Renaming Copied SnapCharTs
Using the Copy button will create a new SnapCharT file named “Copy:Chart_Name”. That’s not very pretty or usable (particularly when you get quite a few charts backed up in various stages of development. So let’s rename it. Here’s how:
Step 3: Rename The Copied Chart To Something Easy To Understand And Keep Track Of
I recommend using dates and times in your SnapCharT descriptions:
Step 4: Admire Your Work
Once you’ve completed the steps below, you’ll be able to do so with charts in the future. See how nice this looks?
Using these methods you’ll never lose data and in the event of a crash you’ll be able to recover quickly and easily.
