Don’t forget to use the hashtag… #taprootsummit

Posted: January 31st, 2018 in Summit

The question has been asked and the answer is “yes” – we will be using a conference hashtag again this year (#taprootsummit) .. so if you are a tweeter (or a would be tweeter) please remember to use the conference hashtag in your tweets. It’s a lot of fun!

Are you registered for the 2018 Global TapRooT® Summit February 26 to March 2, Knoxville, Tennessee? We’d love to hear some tweets in February about what you’re looking forward to doing after you arrive in Knoxville!

  • Ever had free time after a conference day but needed to know some of the best places to eat in an unfamiliar place? Tweet out your question to #taprootsummit after hours!
  • Ever forgot when a registration desk was open or where to even register? Tweet out your question to #taprootsummit after you arrive!
  • Ever wondered if you could start networking with some of the attendees or make a friend before you even arrived? Tweet out to #taprootsummit that you’re attending!

These are just a few fun ideas. During the last conference our attendees had a blast communicating on Twitter and sharing images of the event.

Have questions? Tweet them out! Don’t forget the hashtag… #taprootsummit !

When your fast and you know it…

Is the information you’ve gathered for your investigation in this pile… somewhere?

Posted: January 24th, 2018 in Career Development, Career Development Tips, Software, Testimonials

Are you frustrated with the amount of paper on your desk related to incidents you are investigating?

Do you spend too much time looking for information you know you have… somewhere.

Are you having a hard time finding the missing pieces to the investigation puzzle that will help you find and fix problems at your facility once and for all?

Then you need TapRooT® software!

TapRooT® Root Cause Analysis software is used by investigators as a central repository for their root cause investigations. The software helps to streamline the process, organize information and save critical data.

Some essential tasks investigators use the software for are to:

  • create SnapCharT®s (a timeline leading to the incident) that are easy to read and re-order as they collect new information.
  • organize evidence collection.
  • run causal factors (mistakes, errors or equipment failures) through the Root Cause Tree® to determine the real root causes.
  • look up questions they may have in the Root Cause Tree® Dictionary.
  • develop fixes with the Corrective Action Helper®.
  • create management reports.

How can you receive a free 3-month subscription to try it for yourself? Sign up for a 2-day TapRooT® course! In the 2-day course, you will learn everything you need to know about how to conduct a TapRooT® Root Cause Analysis Investigation and an opportunity to practice in the software.

“[The course] gave us the opportunity to complete an example event in the software.
Most classes don’t allow you time to learn objectives taught, including software.” ~ A. Garcia

TapRooT® is Going to Wilmington, Delaware

Posted: January 23rd, 2018 in Courses, Local Attractions

We have 2-Day TapRooT® training planned in Wilmington, April 25 and 26, 2018.  It’s not very often that we get to this location, so don’t miss your chance to register.

What’s so special about Wilmington? Well, we asked TapRooT® Instructor, Dave Janney, to fill us in since he is familiar with this city.  He said there are some interesting places to think about working into your visit.

Historic New Castle. This town, established in 1651, is a mix of colonial, Dutch and Federal architecture. Cobblestone streets and stately townhomes of this riverside city make it a perfect place to visit in the Spring.

Longwood Gardens. TapRooT® Training will be held during the Spring Blooms event – explore 1,077 acres of crocus, winter-aconite, glory-of-the-snow and daffodils blanketing the grounds.

Nemours Mansion. The Nemours Mansion is a classical French mansion with 105 rooms on five floors occupying almost 47,000 square feet. If is an excellent example of a modified Louis XVI French château.

Winterthur Museum. This impressive museum houses one of the most important collections of Americana in the United States of America.

Hagley Museum. Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E. I. du Pont in 1802. It’s an example of early American industry including restored mills, a workers’ community, and the ancestral home and gardens of the du Pont family.

Enjoy this course location and learn everything you need to know about how to conduct a root cause investigation and create effective Corrective Actions in just two days!

Three Words that Stifle Stimulation!

Posted: January 22nd, 2018 in Career Development

The following article is reprinted with permission of its author, Vincent Ivan Phipps, M.A., CSP. We are pleased that Mr. Phipps is a keynote speaker at the upcoming 2018 Global TapRooT® Summit.  You can purchase his new book, Lead Out Loud, and learn how to unlock your personal excellence by clicking here. Learn more at And last but not least, don’t forget to register for the Summit and meet him in person!Fewer things are more enjoyable than knowing you are respected and appreciated so avoid the words that can stifle effective stimulation during effective communication. These words are featured in the book, “Lead Out Loud: Keys to Unlock Your Professional Excellence!” are called, Fire Terms©: words or phrases that can increase defensiveness.

1. But

“But” cancels out everything that was said before it and tells that person that the speaker only cares about what came after it. For example, if you said to someone, “I hear your point, but,” What you are really saying is, “I did not hear your point. In fact I probably didn’t listen to all of it. What I think is important is my own idea.” Imagine if someone you cared about told you, “I love you, but…”

2. Never

“Never” makes an unconditional and unqualified statement. Few things are so definite that they will never happen. It will only take one instance to prove a “never” statement wrong. It makes it seem like you exaggerate and it reduces your credibility.

3. Basically

“Basically” is a filler word that is often substituted for, “yes”. If it is, “yes”, just say “yes”. Using basically can make you seem indecisive or as if there is additional information being left out.

Whether in the living room or the board room, avoid these and other Fire Terms to amplify the stimulation of communication!

TapRooT® Root Cause Analysis Training Offers Hands-on Learning

Posted: January 16th, 2018 in Courses, Success Stories, Training

Hands-on learning is so important when learning something new. We keep this in mind when developing root cause analysis training and our course attendees appreciate it too. Here’s some feedback we’ve received lately:

“Great hands on exercise [for developing Corrective Actions] and great class involvement.” ~ D. Rind

“Very good to get a feel of how to put all the investigation together [on final team exercises] using a group and the challenges of getting everyone on the same page.” ~ P. Loudat

“Hands-on is always useful.” ~ G. Magee

“I appreciate the balancing of lecture and hands-on content.” ~ J. Nelson

What are some of the benefits of hands-on learning?

Increased retention of what is taught. Research indicates that learners retain 5% of material presented through lecture and 30% taught through demonstration. Hands-on participation can help learners retain 75% of the information presented.

Increased engagement. Hands-on learning keeps learners interested in what is being taught.

Opportunities for critique. Learners can get instant feedback from the instructor or others attending the course that reinforces learning.

Risk mitigation. Hands-on learning allows the course attendee to practice a new skill prior to working in real-world environments.

Advanced problem solving. Hands-on learners can work through scenarios in the training room and become better equipped to deal with problems back at their facilities.

Extra practice. It’s true what they say… practice makes perfect!
