Arkansas Hospital To Add Safeguards After Copper Lines Theft

An Arkansas hospital may have to rethink its opening date due to the theft of its installed copper lines, according to a statement from officials at the Sevier County Medical Center.

Thursday evening, May 31, 2022, the construction site at Sevier County Medical Center in De Queen, Arkansas, was vandalized, with theft of copper lines the main focus of the subsequent investigation, according to the Texarkana Gazette.

In Arkansas, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation into the stolen copper lines and other items relating to the construction site.

Originally, the Arkansas hospital was to open September 20, 2022. The opening will now likely be delayed, according to hospital CEO Lori House.

“The opening of Sevier County Medical Center has been highly anticipated and the need for a new hospital in this county is substantial. When this type of theft and subsequent damage occurs, it hurts the entire community,” House said.

In its comments, the Arkansas hospital added that it is placing safeguards to prevent the possibility of further thefts.
