Automation and Awareness: TapRooT® TV Video Premiere

We’ve all seen accidents that involved automation

Probably the most dramatic cases lately were the 737 Max crashes. You’ve likely also heard someone say that automation is more reliable than human control. In fact, there are systems that are so unstable that humans can’t control the system without the help of automation (for example, the B-2, also known as the Stealth Bomber).

So, what is the right role for automation, and the appropriate role for the human? How can assigning the wrong role to the human or automation cause an accident? That’s something that System Improvements President Mark Paradies studied while getting his master’s degree. And the proper role of automation and the human (function allocation) is what we will discuss in this video premiere.

This week’s video premiere…

What does your company do to review automation before it is installed?

That is the question Mark queried readers as he ended the article, “Automation and Accidents,” Be sure to read the article either before or after you tune in to hear Mark and Benna Hughes’ discussion. Another great article you should read, also by Mark, on this topic is “Automation and Human Error.”
