Emotional Ignorance: Break-Free in an Interactive Breakout Session

break out session

Emotional Ignorance versus Emotional Intelligence

Yep, that’s right. I said emotional ignorance.

Emotional ignorance and emotional intelligence comparison

➡️ If you do not employ emotional intelligence because you think it is another management fad or buzzword, you likely suffer from emotional ignorance. Don’t fret! You need to accompany me in the 10:00 am breakout session at the 2023 Global TapRooT® Summit.

➡️ If you have a general idea of what emotional intelligence is and want to have fun in an informative session, then you want to accompany me in the same 10:00 breakout session. Why?

Keep reading to learn how The Intelligent Investigator: Affective Techniques for Effective Results will benefit you.

1. How You Will Benefit

In this fast-moving breakout session, you will learn how to:

  • Discover your strengths in the 5 qualities of emotional intelligence
  • Broaden your knowledge of how you hinder your investigations
  • Gain insight into the three-tiered brain and which tier you use most
  • Practice ways to manage your emotional responses
  • Learn how adopting these concepts reveal everything you need to know

To benefit most from this session you will need to dial in for a mere fifty-five minutes. This is likely the most difficult concept throughout the session, but … You. Can. Do. It. I know it is a bold ask.

This means electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches–all of them) should be set aside in order to employ one of my favorite concepts within the session, active listening.

There is so much information to cover that I equip all session attendees with a physical workbook to follow along and take notes on these key concepts. Click to learn more about me and the session.

2. Tips to Succeed (No Emotional Ignorance)

What’s the opposite of active listening? Passive listening–yep! Half-listening, a trait of emotional ignorance, will not help you. If you are not paying full attention I guarantee that you will be lost on what even happened other than hearing words like “emotions” and “feelings.”

Take for example the title of this session, The Intelligent Investigator: Affective Techniques for Effective Results. In fact, you will hear me say effect, effects, effective (or was that affect, affects, affective)? Let’s be active listeners:

  • Listen to understand
  • Avoid interruptions
  • Withhold judgments
  • Reduce distractions
  • Request clarification

3. All Fun & Games [Almost] with Interactive Assessments

I believe learning must be engaging which is why I have developed Interactive group learning exercises to aid in applying the information provided in the session. Before I jump to those, you can get a jump start by answering polls in the Whova Event App or Website under this session (3 of 4 polls shown).

For more instructions on Whova, read more about preparing for the Summit.

The interactive group learning exercises in the session are the Hot Button Excercise, Emotion Card Exercise, Wise Mind Exercise, and lastly, a live 10-question quiz hosted by the Kahoot! virtual learning platform where the top three players win a small token of emotional intelligence appreciation!

And Just Like That… Our Time is Done

Before you know it the short fifty-five minutes together will conclude. Then you have just enough time for a supersonic break until the 2023 Global TapRooT® Summit presents the conference closing Keynote Speaker, Frank Abignale, Jr., at 11:00 am!

Catch [a seat] if you can!
