China Avoids Mining Safety Comparisons

Some pretty staggering numbers.  100X more dangerous than in the US – wow.

Our definition of root cause is “the absence of best practices or failure to apply knowledge” that would have prevented the problem (or significantly reduced the likelihood or consequences of the problem).

So if we can be 100X safer in the same exact industry, is there not knowledge that could be applied in China (and other countries, including Chile)?  Of course there is.  The shame is that many times action is not taken until enough pressure is applied.  Until China applies the knowledge readily available to them, people will continue to die.  How sad.
