Combining Multiple Single-User Databases to a Single, Centralized Database
With version 5.1 looming on the horizon, I thought it would be advantageous to re-visit the topic of combining databases in the TapRooT® System Software. The most important part of this is that you MUST have a multi user license (work, group or enterprise) in order to receive support for any issues you may have with this.
Read on for instructions on how to export and import your incidents into a centralized database!
Let me provide some info on single user databases. When you perform a single user install of TSS 4.04 or higher on a local machine, the software creates two database files in the “C:\Program Files\TapRooT\taprootdata” folder.
These files cannot be access by a user on another machine. They will only be available to users that log in to that specific machine. In order to share data with a single user license, you will need to export your incidents and then import them on a different machine. Let’s walk through doing this together:
Exporting Incidents
Launch the software and highlight the incident in question in the Incident Manager.
Click on the “Export” button on the bottom of the Incident Manager.
Choose a file location (preferably the desktop) to save the incident export file
Once chosen, you’ll see a pop-up window with the filename and location of the export file, whose extension ends in “.TS4” Copy the .TS4 file to a thumb drive or network location to transfer to another installation.
Importing Incidents
Launch the software and click on the “Import” button on the bottom of Incident Manager
Use the File Browser to locate the exported .TS4 incident file
Once chosen, you should see a confirmation message that the incident was imported successfully.
Please Edit the imported incident in question to ensure all data was transferred successfully.
