How far away is death? Fallen excavator . . .


From the Australasian Mine Safety Journal (AMSJ), the image is one of two released to local news by a mine worker in 2019; the one with a fallen excavator is particularly disturbing.

South 32’s GEMCO hit back at critics saying the company “takes safety seriously” following a worker releasing images — one of them with a fallen excavator — to the NT news of two incidents at the Groote Eylandt site.

When the mine worker sent the images of a fallen excavator and a haul truck in a precarious position after it had run off a haul road, the NT news claimed that worker fatigue was to blame in one of the incidents. excavator
