Improve Soft Skills in the Workplace.
We’re pleased to announce the return of the Work-Life Balance Track at the 2021 Global TapRooT® Summit, June 14-18, 2021, Knoxville, Tennessee. Improve your soft skills by registering for this track. You may also customize your own track by choosing one or two sessions that add the most value to your soft skills. This year’s Summit is a hybrid event – join us in-person or virtually.
Soft skills are non-technical skills that relate to how you work. They include how you interact with other workers, how to solve problems, and how you manage your work. Soft skills are important because they make it easier to form good relationships at work, create trust and dependability, and lead teams. Good soft skills improve work – life balance.
Following are the best practice sessions planned for this track:
TapRooT® Users Share Best Practices
This session shares three TapRooT® User Success Stories that can help you discover how to improve incident investigation, root cause analysis, product quality, and human performance. You’ll hear success stories from Weatherford (Shawn Holden), Patheon (Tammy Mascioli), and Nine Energy Service (Jeff Gleason). Take home proven ideas that will help your company improve performance.
Post-Incident Care of Employees
Providing practical support to workers who have experienced stressful or traumatic events can reduce risk and prevent future incidents. Join my track co-leader, Benna Hughes, and learn how to support your employees to reduce the potential negative effects on their mental and physical health.
Applying Emotional Intelligence to Support Mental Health in the Workplace
This is one of my favorite topics to share and I’m excited to lead this session at the Summit. Emotions and intelligence are not on opposite ends of the spectrum as some believe. The interlock of thinking and emotions powerfully influence how we make decisions. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand that interlock within ourselves and others. Telling employees to “leave emotions at the door” doesn’t work, and negative emotions contribute to poor culture and accidents. Recognizing poor mental health in workers is so important to safety yet it’s reported that 69% of line managers have not been trained how to recognize it in their employees. This session will give practical tips on how to apply emotional intelligence to support positive mental health in your workplace.
Balancing Life & Work
Prepared to get inspired with Vincent Phipps! His humor, high energy, and expertise will provide endless take-aways and leave you wanting more. Within a three-year timeframe, Vincent endured the following tragedies: breaking his neck in an almost fatal car accident, leaving his corporate job after 13 years, and he and his wife suffering the loss of their newborn son. During these times of struggle, Vincent developed strategies to channel negative energy towards positive outcomes.
What Does a Good Safety Meeting Look Like?
How do people describe safety meetings at your facility? An obligation? Death by PowerPoint? Naptime? Turn your safety meetings into effective, engaged events. Brei Richardson, Safety Director at Airgas, will teach tips that will change the way you conduct meetings for the better.
Injury-Proofing your Employees with Body Education & Badassery
In order to get buy-in and engagement of ergonomic and back safety initiatives, it’s essential to explain the WHY behind it all. Understanding how the body responds to repetitive, physical work and its natural warning signs makes it easier to catch any small body problems before they become large injuries. This session is lead by Lori Frederic, Owner of Balance Biomechanics and also know at “the Movement Ninja.”
How to Be a 5-Star Instructor
Sometimes the difference between a good and instructor and a great instructor is just a few adjustments. There are many different ways to teach effectively but good instructors have many qualities in common. Bekah Freed and Dementra Johnson will share tips on how to be 5-Star.
