Qualifications: Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: Requires Masters degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or any Masters degree and related coursework within two years of hire. Requires 5 years experience in occupational safety, emergency management or related field, which includes design of independent projects, data analysis and interpretation. Must have ability to organize and implement procedures/techniques independently. Must have significant technical knowledge, understanding of safety regulations, ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written materials, and ability to work both independently and in a team. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment that requires upgrading of skills on a regular basis is required. Must have established presentation and training skills, and be capable of demonstrating and exhibiting positive customer service skills. Must have working knowledge of PC and ability to use routine computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases).
Additional Experience and/or Qualifications: Healthcare safety experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification Required: A CSP, CIH or CEM certification is required within two years of hire.
Description: Organizational Relationships: Works as member of the Section of Safety and Security work units. Receives direction from the Manager of work unit. Works cooperatively with Safety staff and customers to accomplish job. Maintains effective working relationship with variety of staff. May have contact outside Mayo as job duties require. Position Overview: Majority of time is spent as a safety consultant and resource in directing activities within portions of the safety program in a customer focused environment. Participates in administrative duties as assigned, including budget and resource allocation, and facilitation of staff involved with safety-related projects. Develops and facilitates implementation of creative ideas and suggestions to improve systems, processes and service; develops and implements new policies and procedures; develops and implements educational programs; evaluates established procedures and educational programs for effectiveness. Must be able to develop, conduct, and facilitate safety audits and perform hazard assessments, including the interpretation of results and facilitate implementation of solutions. Able to analyze and interpret data and participates in decisions regarding data validity and conclusions. Must maintain strict confidentiality of information.
