A Quick Tip for a Little Monday Motivation

I heard someone say, “If each day is a ‘gift,’ I’d like to know where I can return Mondays.” It made me smile but it’s easy to feel that way after a couple days away from work. Today’s post includes an easy tip to make your Monday and every day a little easier to navigate. It’s about finding motivation in a simple mantra that you create.

Did you know that a positive saying or mantra can lift your spirits, keep your motivation up in difficult times, and calm your nervous system? Reciting a mantra is an ancient practice but there is science that backs up its neurological effect. In fact, research tells us that it doesn’t matter whether you are reciting a religious text, an inspirational quote, a word or a phrase, as long as you repeat it and bring awareness to it throughout your day, you’ll feel positive results.

How to find motivation with a mantra.

Finding motivation with a mantra is very simple and involves consistency and awareness.

Be consistent. It doesn’t matter what you chose for your mantra, regular practice over a month or year brings energy to it and will help with your motivation. (Having trouble deciding? Take our ten-minute core values quiz, and use your core values statement as your mantra.)

Bring awareness to your mantra, but don’t fixate on it. When you experience a negative emotion, use your mantra to bring yourself back into the present. Inhale, repeat the mantra. Exhale, repeat the mantra. It also helps to print your mantra on a piece of paper, and display it someplace you will see it every day.

The more you practice your mantra, the more the mantra opens up for you and helps you to manage your emotions and maintain your motivation. People have told me that having a mantra is like having an old friend – once they see it or speak it, it brings immediate relief.

So share with us, what’s your mantra?
