Meet Our Staff: Editorial Team

Barb and Leslie make up the Editorial Team at System Improvements.

An Indianapolis native, Barb moved to Knoxville in 2004 and came on board with System Improvements, Inc. in 2006.

Juggling many responsibilities, Barb enjoys the fact that no two days are ever the same. “Presently, we’re working on social media integration — transforming monologues into dialogues.  I think our clients will value this added communication.”

Barb handles many aspects of the company including assisting the president and coordinating keynote and best practice speakers at the annual Summit (67 and counting!).  “I manage other critical day-to-day operational tasks,” Barb added, “for example, if someone sees a mouse (the furry kind) or spiders invade his or her office, I’m the go-to person.  If we run out of water bottles for the water cooler, ten people will report that to me.  I’m kidding….a little….with 30 onsite employees, there has to be someone available to take care of these things.”

She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University.  She is an accomplished writer and her 50+ published works include national and regional magazine articles, audiobook scripts, anthology essays and a non-fiction book.  She has also taught writing workshops for the Knoxville Writers’ Guild, Writers’ Helper and for the public library.

Having recently joined the staff at System Improvements, Inc., Leslie is Editorial Assistant to Barb. Leslie builds and edits the monthly e-newsletter TapRooT® Friends & Experts and is responsible for some of the articles as well.

“I’ve only been with the company a short time,” Leslie said, “but I am really enjoying my job. Everyone is so nice, and Barbara and I have become fast friends…she’s a pleasure to work with.”

Leslie works part-time for the company and runs her own freelance writing business from home. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Tennessee-Knoxville and her master’s degree in journalism from The University of Memphis.  “Leslie has stepped up to the plate and hit every assignment I’ve pitched to her out of the park,” Barb said, “and now we are taking editorial projects up to the next level.”
