Monday Motivation: The Real Winner

The video above is the finish of a cross-country race. The runner from Kenya had led the race by a considerable distance and thought he crossed the finish line. The problem was …. he really had not!

The second place contestant, Iván Fernández Anaya of Spain, realized that the competitor from Kenya had stopped short and instead of sprinting by him for the win, corrected the Kenyon runner and guided him to the finish line.

He is quoted as having said:

Even if winning would have earned me a place in the Spanish team for the European championships, I wouldn’t have passed him. The way things are in our society today, in soccer, in politics, it seems like anything goes to win.

What is important is to show children that sports and life are more than what they see on TV: violent kicks in abundance, posh statements, and fingers in the eyes of the enemy.”

Wow! he may have placed second in the race, but he certainly is a winner in life!
