New EPA Regulations Affect the Healthcare Industry—Are You Ready?
What will the new EPA regulations mean for you?
With new EPA regulations looming over the healthcare industry, how are you preparing? I don’t think any of us can afford to learn by trial and error, or hope to get lucky. Burn that bridge of hope and prepare well to avoid costly fines and decrease risk to our people and environment.
TapRooT®’s solution for burning that bridge of hope is to give your team the ability to proactively look for the absence of best practices or knowledge that could prevent heavy fines, preventable injuries, and environmental damage. One technique our instructors teach, Safeguard Analysis, will help your company analyze its current management systems for strengths and weaknesses.
What is Safeguard Analysis?
Safeguard Analysis springs from the philosophy that management should ensure that there are sufficient Safeguards or barriers between sources of damage (hazards) and people, equipment, the environment, etc. (targets). Think of a moat and drawbridge around a castle. The moat and drawbridge are safeguards or barriers between the hazard (of being attacked) and the targets (the people and resources inside).
Safeguards are generally divided into four categories:
-Physical Barriers, such as a sharps container protecting a person from a needle stick
-Natural Barriers, such as isolation or space protecting people from a contagion
-Human Action Barriers, such as a person mopping up a wet floor to prevent falls
-Administrative Controls, such as a hurricane evacuation policy
How does TapRooT® help you with Safeguards?
Our instructors will show your team how to identify Safeguards that are working, Safeguards that are not working, and Safeguards that need to be introduced into your systems to protect your targets from the hazards.
Where are the resources for further help with Safeguards?
Below is a link from EHS Today to an article that breaks down the new regulations. As you read it, think of the Safeguards that will proactively prevent financial penalties and injuries to your workers, patients, and environment.
