Nuclear Navy Memories – USS ARKANSAS & USS LONG BEACH

During my time in the Navy, I served aboard two nuclear powered cruisers – the USS ARKANSAS (I was a Plankowner) and the USS LONG BEACH. The Arkansas was the newest cruiser in the fleet when I reported for duty. The LONG BEACH was the oldest. They were both great ships and are both now decommissioned to save the budget dollars required to refuel them- what a shortsighted shame!
