Press Release from the UK Rail Accident Investigation Branch: Investigation into a fatal accident involving a track worker at Whitehall West Junction, Leeds, on 2 December 2009
The RAIB is carrying out an investigation into a fatal accident involving a track worker who was carrying out lookout duties near Whitehall West Junction, Leeds. The accident occurred at about 09:40 hrs on 2 December 2009 when the track worker was struck by an empty class 333 electric multiple unit, operated by Northern Rail, that had just left Leeds destined for Skipton.
The RAIB’s investigation is independent of any investigations by the safety authority.
The RAIB will publish a report, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of its investigation. This report will be available on the RAIB website.
