Safety Drill on Cruise Ship Cost 5 Crew Members Their Lives

In a strange twist of fate, an exercise to practice life saving skills (operation of lifeboats) turned deadly aboard a cruise ship in port at Spain’s Canary Islands. Here’s the story:

The story contains little information about the cause of the accident. It mentions that a cable snapped while the boat was being hoisted but doesn’t mention the reasons behind the cables failure (operations errors or equipment failures?).
