Here is Jim’s bio:
Mr. Thomas joined JCPenney, one of the nation’s largest department store, catalog & Internet retailers, as Vice President, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility in 2007. In this new position, Mr. Thomas develops and leads the Company’s long-range corporate social responsibility strategies, collaborating closely with the Executive Board and Leadership Council. Prior to joining JCPenney, he was with Novartis for 20 years, most recently serving as Vice President, Organizational Compliance for the Gerber Products Division. In that role, Mr. Thomas held global responsibility for corporate citizenship, compliance & ethics, crisis management, health, safety & environment, enterprise risk management and business continuity. Mr. Thomas previously held a number of different positions within Novartis, including a three year tour of duty in corporate headquarters in Switzerland where he was involved in international auditing. Prior to joining Novartis, Mr. Thomas worked in a wide variety of industries including the chemical industry and the aerospace industry. In addition, to his work with JCPenney and Novartis, Mr. Thomas is the past Chairman of GEMI (The Global Environmental Management Initiative), an industry group comprised of many of the leading US companies. He was also on the steering committee for the UN Global Compact – US Network. He earned a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters degree in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University.
