UK RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) Report into 2007 Train Derailment Released

This is a very long but interesting report – as usual, several things went awry and I won’t get into all of them; however, I thought this was interesting:

“English Welsh & Scottish Railway Wabtec, Lafarge and Network Rail did not identify frame twist features and a lack of corrective maintenance during an investigation into a previous derailment involving the wagons that were subsequently involved in the Ely incident.”

A missed opportunity to have prevented this one…………….?
