Navy Looking for Root Cause of Cracks on New Ship

Bloomberg reported that the new Littoral Combat Ship USS Freedom developed a 5 inch crach below the waterline during heavy weather testing.

A spokesperson said that the builder, Lockheed Martin is “…is working closely with the Navy to confirm the root cause…” and “We are also supporting the Navy in additional testing along the hull to confirm this crack was an isolated anomaly.”

Don’t jump to conclusions! One should look to see if the problem IS a generic cause rather than trying to confirm that it is an isolated anomaly.
