NS Savannah

Being a Navy Nuc, I always found the story of the NS Savannah, a nuclear-powered ship built to demonstrate the civilian use of nuclear power, an interesting tale of engineering.

It wasn’t part of Rickover’s fleet, and it was never really successful (a combination cruise ship and cargo ship that was not really good at either one). Being a one-of-a-kind design, it was expensive to operate.

I was surprised to see that it was still around and is being maintained by the government. CLICK HERE for a story about it being maintained.
